Cinderella

(Rodgers/Hammerstein) (RNBW018)

Original London Cast with Tommy Steele, Jimmy Edwards, Yana, Bruce Trent, Kenneth Williams and Betty Marsden. First time on CD. With bonus tracks. The only stage recording of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1957 U.S. television score which was augmented for this West End production with songs from their 1953 Broadway musical ME AND JULIET. Staged as a pantomime, the production used men in drag playing the ugly sisters (Kenneth Williams/Ted Durante) and introduced pop star Tommy Steele in his first stage role.

“…it’s fun to hear the piece’s first stage incantation, accompanied by a nicely full-bodied orchestra.”
Ken Mandelbaum, broadway.com

“… a lovely score full of swirling waltzes and ballads.”
Terry Wardrope, Curtain Up

“… a reminder. If any were needed, that Rodgers was incapable of writing a dull tune. ‘Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?’, ‘A Lovely Night’ and the swirling waltz ‘Ten Minutes Ago’ are as good as anything he wrote with Oscar Hammerstein…”
Jim Murphy, The Age
